Small, Medium, and Large Construction Companies
Different construction companies have different needs. These needs get even more varied and complex when a firm’s size is considered.
The things that a small construction company may need are likely to be almost completely different from what a large construction company needs.
That being the case, Sage has designed different solutions for different sized firms. Here’s what we recommend for each (and why).
Small Construction Companies
For smaller construction companies, our recommended solution is Sage 100 Contractor. Sage 100 C is an all-in-one solution that combines potential for job costing, budgeting, invoicing, payroll, and more all into one software.
Smaller firms that aren’t trying to keep up with dozens of ongoing projects should be more than satisfied with the features that Sage 100 C offers. It is a huge upgrade from manual solutions or simpler softwares like Quickbooks, but it isn’t at all overwhelming by offering too much to make sense.
Typically, Sage 100 C can be implemented in a few weeks and learned within the first year of use. Teams that are fully educated on using the solution will enjoy the softwares wide variety of features and benefits.
Mid-Sized Construction Companies
At mid-sized firms, it’s common to find teams that are ramping up their capacity, looking to increase efficiency, and working to improve profitability.
Based on these needs, we’d recommend that mid-sized firms consider both Sage 100 C and Sage 300 CRE before deciding on a solution. In some cases, growing firms can make great use of the added features offered by Sage 300 CRE, but at other times, Sage 100 C is a sufficient solution.

The main difference between the two is that Sage 300 CRE is built for a larger volume of inter-company transactions. Because of this, the software is a little less stripped down and straightforward, but more powerful and customizable.
Large Construction Companies
For larger construction companies, we almost exclusively recommend Sage 300 CRE. Sage 300 CRE is essentially created to manage tremendous volume.
Unlike Sage 100 C and most other construction accounting softwares built for smaller teams, Sage 300 CRE is designed to manage a lot of moving parts that include invoices, payroll, customized reporting, and more.
Instead of trying to squeak by with a simple solution that costs you time and money, implement one that automates all of the tasks that you’d otherwise be doing manually.
